Gracie Dotson

Gracie Dotson graduated from John Battle High School in 2018 and knew that she wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. While she was narrowing down her options, Gracie toured Virginia Highlands’ campus and learned about the Medical Assisting program. This nine-month program would give Gracie training in taking patients’ vitals, drawing blood, giving injections and more. Gracie knew that it would be the perfect introduction into the medical field and would give her the opportunity to work in a medical setting while she continued her education.

The cohort-style setup of the Medical Assisting class allowed Gracie to develop close bonds with her classmates and her professor, Kim Felty. “I have to dedicate a majority of my success to Professor Felty. She has been so supportive and encouraging every step of the way. I am forever grateful for her,” said Gracie.

Now, Gracie is enrolled in VHCC’s Registered Nurse program, which she will complete in May 2022. She is currently interning at Johnston Memorial Hospital and feels prepared for her next step. Her goal is become an ICU nurse after graduation.
