Connor McMullen is a recent graduate of Abingdon High School. A stellar student in high school, Connor always knew that he wanted to pursue an Engineering degree at Virginia Tech. Having thousands of dollars in student loans to pay off after graduation didn’t sound appealing to Connor, however.
When he heard about Virginia Highlands’ guaranteed admission agreement with Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering, Connor decided that VHCC would be the perfect place to begin his college career. “VHCC is helping me prepare for a bigger university like VT by allowing me to get used to how college works,” said Connor.
Connor has enjoyed being close to home and has found an enriching social experience at VHCC. “I have met lots of new people and made many new friends in just the first semester,” said Connor. The small class sizes have also been a perfect way for him to get one-on-one help from his professor to help him grasp complex concepts.
Once he earns his Associate Degree in Engineering from Virginia Highlands, Connor will transfer to Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering, beginning the upper-level engineering courses alongside his peers who started out at Virginia Tech. Connor, however, will be beginning the classes with more money in his wallet!
