"The Heron's Journey" with Storyteller Adam Booth
Spring 2026 Arts Array's Signature Event
“The Heron’s Journey” is a performance art piece combining spoken storytelling, quilting, paper sculpture, and intentional movement to share an allegory filled with magic, challenges to opposition, and transformation. Meet the title character Lake in various forms of self-discovery on his journey from boy to heron, where he learns about authority, rejection, finding home, and acceptance. Audience members have found themselves deep within the story echoing themes such as immigration, orientation, ability, spiritual freedom, and self-awareness. While some children have enjoyed this program, it is most suitable for mature teenagers through adults because of the themes mentioned above.
The presentation includes visual and physical contributions from quilter Amy Pabst, printmaker Sarah Brown, and movement specialist Toneta Akers-Toler.
This signature event is free of charge thanks to the generous support of the VHCC Arts Array program and in partnership with the Virginia Highlands Festival. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
This event is part of our Spring 2026 Arts Array event series.
