Automatons and Robots: An Exhibition of Works by Kevin Reaves
Tuesday, September 3 - Thursday, October 3
Art Gallery, VHCC Library (LRC)
FREE Admission
Visit the VHCC campus library to view the intricate and spellbinding automatons and robots made by artist and tabletop game designer Kevin Reaves. His sculptures are created using a combination of traditional and digital practices, including metalsmithing, digital sculpture, and 3D printing. His work is informed by his lifelong infatuation with toys, monsters, science fiction, and pop culture images from the 1980’s. The metal automatons are crafted using brass and copper combined with other materials including clay, wood, and steel. Alongside these meticulously handcrafted metal robots, the artist also sculpts in the digital program, Zbrush. After designing the digital sculptures, he creates 3D prints in resin which are then painted and used to form a cast of characters for tabletop games. The VHCC Art Gallery is located within the campus library, in the LRC Building, and is open to the public during regular business hours.
