National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Welding Level 4 is designed for advanced welding students preparing to master aluminum welding techniques and specialized processes. This course builds on foundational welding skills and introduces advanced procedures in Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on plate and pipe. Students will also gain practical experience in soldering and brazing copper tubing.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and extensive hands-on practice, participants will learn how to interpret metallurgical considerations, troubleshoot welding problems, and perform high-quality welds in multiple positions.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Metallurgy & Fundamentals- Identify metallurgical considerations and common challenges in aluminum welding.
- Explain GMAW and GTAW processes specific to aluminum plate and pipe.
 
- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)- Weld aluminum plate using GMAW equipment.
- Perform stringer beads, weave beads, weld terminations, restarts, and overlapping beads.
- Produce fillet welds on aluminum plate in the 1F, 2F, 3F, and 4F positions.
- Complete V-groove welds on aluminum plate in the 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions.
- Execute V-groove welds on aluminum pipe in the 2G, 5G, and 6G positions.
 
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)- Use stringer and weave beads to weld a pad on aluminum plate.
- Produce fillet welds on aluminum plate in the 1F, 2F, 3F, and 4F positions.
- Complete V-groove welds on aluminum plate in the 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions.
- Perform modified U-groove welds on aluminum pipe in the 2G, 5G, and 6G positions.
 
- Soldering & Brazing- Apply soldering and brazing techniques to copper tubing with precision and safety.
